Cell phones have become a necessary part of our daily lives. However, a cell phone is essentially useless without a decent battery. It is worth knowing a bit about your cell phone battery in order to keep it in good condition for as long as possible.

Phone manufacturers will require you to use a cell phone battery that was purchased from the manufacturer of the phone itself. While other generic brands will create their own compatible cell phone battery products and sell them for a lower price, using a cell phone battery not made by the cell phone manufacturer can have a number of repercussions. Most importantly, using a generic battery in a cell phone can render any warranty on the cell phone void. Furthermore, if a cell phone battery is counterfeit or reconditioned, using it can potentially cause permanent damage to the phone.

If your phone uses a lithium-ion cell phone battery, ensure it doesn’t come into contact with other metals, as the ions may be disturbed and can lead to a defective cell phone battery. Jarring a battery by dropping your cell phone can also cause damage, even when your phone appears to be unharmed.

Keep your cell phone battery out of extreme weather conditions, as heaters, ovens, stoves and other hot items can cause a battery to overheat or melt.
